Jezreel Corrales went into the lions den yet again and defeated the Japanese boxer known as “KO Dynamite” Takashi Uchiyama, this time by majority decision.
Uchiyama (24-2-1 20 KOs) scored a knockdown in the 5th round but it did him little good with the final tally. The scorecards read 115-112, 117-110 for Corrales and 114-113 for Uchiyama.
Corrales (21-1 8 KOs) will now look ahead to bigger matchups. One option is a unification with Vasyl Lomachenko whom he was in negotiations with earlier this Fall before Lomachenko decided on a fight with Nicholas Walters.
For Uchiyama it may be time to hang em up. He flirted with retirement after his first loss and was reported to have been considering it even with a win tonight. Given his age and the fact he’s coming off of two consecutive losses, I can’t imagine Uchiyama wants to try and rebuild his career. At this point he probably can’t land any championship fights although with the depth of the super featherweight division he could conceivably find himself in a skirmish with another aging boxer like Orlando Salido if the price is right.
