Vasyl Lomachenko is a bad bad man and once again proved that to the world tonight as he made previously undefeated Nicholas Walters quit on his stool after the 7th round. The word most being used to describe this fight amongst the boxing community is “toyage.” That’s because at no point did Lomachenko ever lose his composure or his control of the fight. His opponent Walters was looking at all heads in his corner with bright eyes and listening to all their voices as he and they desperately tried searching for an answer to the Lomachenko riddle. Walters wouldn’t find one.
The fight between Lomachenko and Walters had been previously explored last Summer but Walters turned it down based on monetary demands. Thinking Walters would be a worthy adversary, HBO tried again this Fall to make the fight after Canelo Alvarez was injured in September and couldn’t make a Winter showing, saving HBO millions. Now HBO and Top Rank will have a tough time finding an opponent close to matching the ability of Vasyl Lomachenko and making a fight worth watching where he isn’t simply “toying” the competition.
