Tomorrow in Tokyo, Japan, three members of the Watanabe Gym, headlined by Super Featherweight Champion Takashi Uchiyama, will defend their WBA titles.

All three boxers, also including junior bantamweight champion Kohei Kono and junior flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi, made weight earlier today with only Uchiyama’s challenger Jezreel Corrales needing extra time to meet the contracted weight limit of 130lbs.

Should Uchiyama defeat Corrales as most expect he will, then Uchiyama will hold the distinction as having the most title defenses in Japanese history at 12.

Uchiyama and Watanabe Gym were angling to get a fight in the States but those plans fell through. Even an ordered WBA unification with Javier Fortuna didn’t come to fruition as Uchiyama is widely regarded as the division’s best and often avoided. After this fight expect Uchiyama to either face Fortuna or a unification bout against one of the other division champions.
