Undisputed super featherweight champion, Takashi Uchiyama told me yesterday that he wants to fight Nicholas Walters in the U.S. There had been rumors from several outlets about the possibility of the match and Uchiyama didn’t seem surprised when I brought up topic.
“I haven’t signed anything yet”, said Uchiyama, but it seems everything is contingent on him winning tonight on New Years Eve in Tokyo, his 5th straight appearance on the night, in what has become a new boxing tradition for Japan. Uchiyama finished with “I’d love to fight him!”
Uchiyama had planned to fight three times in 2015 before he needed elbow surgery. Uchiyama said he feels great and is in perfect shape.
Watch the exchange here:
Oliver Flores, the underdog opponent facing Uchiyama tonight was not too pleased everyone was looking past him. “The Japanese people will be shocked tomorrow night!” Flores told me. His trainer and father, Mr. Flores said his son will fight with intelligence but if he needs to turn it into a brawl like we saw last month with Francisco Vargas and Takashi Miura, (No Sparring FOTY) also from the same division, then so be it.
